Phil Mickelson fell down the leaderboard during the second round of the Genesis Open, despite a remarkable shot through the trees at Riviera.
The 46-year-old slipped out of contention after four bogeys in a six-hole stretch along his front nine on Saturday, only to see his fortunes improve after the turn.
Mickelson birdied the 10th but got into bother with a stray tee shot at the next, which landed a long way left of the fairway and close to the driving range fence.
The American barely had enough room for an aggressive swing and saw numerous trees in his way, but was still able to shape his second shot through the smallest of gaps to get back on the fairway.
Although Mickelson then found the rough with his approach in to the par-five and failed to save par, the five-time major champion posted two birdies along the closing stretch and stay in contention.
