90% corps members can’t communicate in English –Coordinator

National-Youth-Service-CorpsThe Kano State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mr. Sanusi Abdulrasheed, has said that

about 90 percent of corps members could not write good application.

Abdulrasheed said they could not also communicate effectively in English Language. According to him, they rather prefer to communicate in ‘broken’ English.

Abdulerashed, who spoke at the passing out parade of the corps members in Kano yesterday, explained that this was discovered through a research undertaken nationwide by the NYSC management.

He said: “I have been asked to remind you, and I don’t want you to feel insulted, but it is a statement of fact that the management throughout the entire federation made an observation that the bulk of NYSC members were not communicating effectively in English Language.

“Following the research carried out nationwide by the NYSC management on some corps members, it was established that 89 per cent of them cannot write good application, which is the basic fact.”

The coordinator also pointed out that the research indicated that: “Majority of you start writing application with your names, like I, Sanusi Abdulrasheed, hereby…

“You should know that the point of communicating to the world is through application and when you start on a bad note, those who appreciate the use of language would discover that such a person lacks communication skills, while such an application would end up in the dust bin.”

Abdulrasheed also urged the corps members not to feel too big; saying “go and buy primary and secondary books, therein you will learn and study numerous ways of writing good application.
