The Attack On Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor And The Double-Dealings Of The Nigeria Police

When the News about the attack on Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the IPOB lawyer broke out, I knew immediately that it is a ground ploy by the Nigeria government to go after a lawyer representing IPOB and if possible imprison him. Nigeria police went to the country home of Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor and opened fire on everything that is moving. After killing to their satisfaction, they set the entire houses within and outside Barrister Ejiofor’s compound ablaze, rendering the lawyer and his neighbours homeless.

They then moved on to fabricate their press release in desperate bid to rope the lawyer as an IPOB member and tag him a terrorist. Since then, many online recruits have moved to present the case to look like the lawyer goes around with IPOB members following him. They are indirectly trying to say that by the virtue of him representing IPOB, he is then an IPOB member. This is a fat lie from the pit of hell. A lie sold by evil men in Uniform to imprison the Barrister and in turn declare him a terrorist like they wrongly and wickedly did to IPOB.

Just like every other lawyer in Nigeria have the right to defend every accused person in a law court, it is within the right of Barrister Ejiofor to represent any group or persons. You can’t say that because a lawyer is representing a pastor, that he is also a pastor. That Falana is representing Sowore as a lawyer doesn’t make Falana a member of Revolution Now group. That a lawyer representing a man accused of stealing doesn’t make the lawyer a thief. Even according to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended) section 36 (5) states: “Every person charged with a criminal offense is presumed innocent until proven to be guilty.” Therefore, you don’t even have the right to say an accused is guilty, not to talk of criminalizing the person’s lawyer.

But Nigeria police want Nigerians to believe that by the virtue of defending IPOB in law court, that Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor have automatically become IPOB member, and a terrorist. The terrorist tag on IPOB by Nigeria government is already challenged at the court of appeal, awaiting final judgement. And IPOB as an accused isn’t a terrorist group until proven beyond every reasonable doubt in the court of law. Nigeria government knowing that Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor have been defeating them all round and will still defeat them in subsequent cases relating to IPOB, now want to imprison him through the back door.

To say the least, Nigeria government is using this dubious and deceitful means to truncate Court process. When Nnamdi Kanu was granted bail, Nigeria government went to his house killing more than 28 men including a dog. With this, they indirectly ended the court process regarding the IPOB leader’s trial because the have no evidence. Nigerians instead of attacking the security operatives that used force in a case that is still in the court, they were busy blaming Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Today, the beast they incubated during their support of impunity have grown very wild and now even attack court houses, chasing away a sitting judge. Didn’t we warn that whatever goes around comes around?

But never again shall we let them get away with this notorious rogue mentality of attacking lawyers, setting their houses ablaze and tagging them terrorists. Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor is just a lawyer representing IPOB. He is never an IPOB member neither is he a terrorist. This intimidation and rascality by Nigeria police must stop.
