Emeka-IhediohaThe President of the National Association of Imo State Students, Madumezim Chukwuma Lugard and his deputy, Progress Aaron, have been impeached for what was described as gross misconduct and abuse of office. The students’ leaders were impeached specifically for giving an award to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha.

However, the students’ body immediately sworn in the Senate President, Comrade Celestine Uzoma, as the acting president, who would remain until the next convention, which holds in few months time, while the former deputy president emerged the acting senate president.

It was gathered yesterday in Owerri, the state capital, that the two students’ leaders who were impeached during the Senate sitting at Candlewood Hotel, Owerri, at the weekend, were accused of unilaterally giving the award to the Speaker without seeking the consent of other NAISS stakeholders.

The sitting, which was attended by various chapters of the association in tertiary institutions in the country, almost degenerated into a fiasco but for the quick intervention of security operatives dispatched to control the situation.

A source, who did not want his name in print, told National Mirror that the impeachment process started when the senator representing the University of Port Harcourt, raised an impeachment motion against the then NAISS president, alleging that the former president and his deputy indulged in serious acts of misconduct.
