THE Republic of Belarus yesterday indicated its interest to support Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents.
Foreign Minister of the Belarus, Dr. Vladimir Makei, stated this during a visit to his Nigerian counterpart, Ambassador Aminu Wali, in Abuja.
He said the country was aware of the ongoing war against terrorism and will not hesitate to engage in military and technical cooperation.
“I can assure you that we are ready to partner with Nigeria in fields of military and technical cooperation because there are lots of common problems in the international agenda. Only one country cannot overcome this problem. So this is the field we can cooperate and where we cooperate successfully. We are ready to provide necessary armoury to other countries, including Nigeria. We are ready to train your soldiers in fight against terrorism and to train your soldiers at our military academy,” he said.
Wali said there was the need for a united effort to fight insurgency in the country, adding that all arrangements were on to open an embassy in the Belarus with a view to strengthening bilateral relationship.
