SSS and army kill Sokoto terror suspect

Ekpeyong-ItaThe Nigerian Army on Thursday said a suspected terrorist had been killed by soldiers and the State Security Service operatives in an operation at Gidan-Dare, Sokoto State.

 

Commander, 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sokoto, Brig.-Gen. Tasi’u Ibrahim, stated this at a briefing in Sokoto.

One suspect, he added was arrested while 11 family members of the suspected terrorists were rescued.

He said five of the rescued persons included two pregnant women and three children.

He said, “The pregnant women are now receiving ante-natal care at the Brigade’s clinic.”

The commander, who said the operation was carried out following a tip-off, added that “the house was being used as a terrorist hide-out”.

He said there were no fatalities on the side of the army or SSS.

He added, “The operation was clinically and carefully carried out and in line with the existing global rules of engagement.”

Ibrahim said some of the weapons recovered from the house included six AK 47 and one pump action rifles, 13 explosive devices and a vehicle with number plate EL 295 ABJ.

Others are 13 magazines of ammunition, seven Improvised Explosive Device-making materials, 32 batteries, one axe, four phones, 56 SIM cards, three memory cards, 10 cartons of milk and N76,685 cash.

He said, “This group of people do not wish Nigeria and the state well. In this holy month of Ramadan, one may wonder how these people are hell-bent on causing the breach of the peace.

“All well-meaning and law-abiding Nigerians will continue to be protected and secured.

“The army will make every effort to ensure that the innocent do not suffer.”
