It was a misadventure, last night, for suspected Boko Haram insurgents who engaged the Joint Military Taskforce in a

shootout at Lamba Forest in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State, North-West Nigeria.

At least sixty suspected insurgents were confirmed dead at the end of the encounter. Malam Umar Kyari, Director of Press to Governor Sule Lamido, told newsmen in Dutse the Jigawa State capital, that the suspected Boko Haram members laid the foundation for the showdown when they planted a bomb on the road along the forest on Monday night, which exploded and led to the death of three soldiers in a JTF Hilux convoy while many sustained serious injuries.

He said that the JTF, popularly known as Operation Salama in the state, consequently surrounded and bombarded the forest yesterday night.

“Around eleven o’clock of Wednesday night, the military commander who led the operation, told the state governor that over 60 corpses of the insurgents were found scattered in the forest,” Kyari said.
