Muslim GirlA Sharia Court, presided over by Justice Adamu Idris, yesterday ruled that the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, no longer had the power to house Miss Charity Uzoechina, a Muslim convert.

Uzoechina had been in the custody of the monarch since her conversion to Islam.

The Sharia Court had placed the 25-year-old convert in the custody of the royal father following the fear she expressed after her conversion.

The court gave the order on March 4 that the emir should take charge of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida student.

Uzoechina filed a case against her father at the Sharia Court, seeking the protection of the Etsu Nupe after she converted because of the fear that her parents might harm her over her new faith.

But the Sharia Court held yesterday that the royal father no longer had power to keep her in his custody, saying she was free to live anywhere she chose. But the lady’s whereabouts are unknown as there are indications that she had left the palace of the Etsu Nupe.

The judgement of the Sharia Court, it was learnt, might not be unconnected with the Nigger State government’s decision to wade into the issue.
