The Ibaa community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, has vowed to tackle suspected kidnappers and armed robbers over their criminal activities in the area.
Consequently, the community has alerted security operatives about the spate of crimes in the area and urged them to assist in curbing the social vices.
In an interview with the spokesman of Ibaa Community, Chief Fynman Ohaka, he told Saturday Sun that youths in the area had been unleashing mayhem on the community.
Ohaka said a communique was issued recently after their general meeting, where a decision was taken to alert security agencies of the intention of the community and to solicit their support.
According to him, the Ibaa community had forwarded the names of youths suspected to be involved in the nefarious activities to security operatives for assistance.
He stated that the community had resolved to fight kidnapping, militancy, rape, pipeline vandalism and other criminal activities with the support of security operatives.
“The presence of military men in the community has provided a level of security in the area. The boys have been terrorizing the community for a long time due the absence of military men.
“It should be recalled that the cult groups unleash mayhem in the clan. On January 21, 2014, they killed several people including the chairman of the Vigilance (group). Mr. Maxwell Orji, which led to the petitioning of the Commander of JTF, Maj-Gen. Emmanuel Atave and the former Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu. “It is imperative to note that since the taking over of the community by men of the Joint Task Force (JTF), the hoodlums had relocated to our neighbouring communities, and the security operatives are not relenting in fishing them out anywhere they ran to.”
