As it is in the Holy Bible, we read of a man named Esau, who while hungry, approached his younger brother – Jacob, for a meal. Jacob offered a plate of pottage in exchange for his older brother’s birthright. Esau’s erratic thought process went something like this: “I will die if I do not get this bowl of pottage, so of what use is my birthright to me? He obliged and sold his birthright. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus, Esau despised his birthright. – Genesis 24:35.

This brief biblical narrative is exactly the attitude of South-East Nigeria politicians particularly towards their own people. They would rather prefer to willingly sell off their people for mere political positions without minding the aftermath implications. These politicians prefer serving the Northern Fulani oligarchy and stake the well-being/interest of their people in other to have their choice political offices.

Just imagine how the #EndSARS protests erupted all over Nigeria and especially within the Southern States, the North Central and beyond. It then all appeared as if the protests were only meant for Abuja and Lagos. In Abuja for instance, many Nigerians were either killed, injured or arrested and properties of the protesters, wantonly destroyed by Arewa Youths and Government hired thugs. The protests took the worst turn in Lagos because of the #LekkiMassacre which triggered off violence and reprisal destruction of people’s properties.

In Port Harcourt, Rivers State, it all took another shape when the Fulanis living in the State started burning and destroying people’s properties, that later escalated to the other parts of the State. At the end of the protests, it became another thing in the South-East part of Nigeria. The governors started inviting the military to come and unleash mayhem on innocent citizens, with the residents of Obigbo in Rivers State, (So-called South-South), massively deserting the town because of the massive killing, maiming, torture and arrest by the Nigerian soldiers that were invited by governor Nyesom Wike against his own people. He arrogantly accused the family members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for the erupted violent protests, killing of security operatives and destruction of properties.

But Wike has not told the world if it was IPOB too that killed people at Lagos and Abuja. How did he identify IPOB mark on the young Nigerian protesters in his conclusion and tyrannical involvement with the army? Governor Nyesom Wike has made the life of innocent Obigbo residents very miserable. They have deserted that part of the State because of the rampaging Nigerian soldiers.

The same thing is happening in Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia and Anambra States. It was as if the protests only happened in the South-East and in Rivers State. Up till now, nobody has heard that Lagos State, Abuja or any other part of the country, had invited the Nigerian military to start going from house to house in search of the protesters or IPOB members.

This is the attitude of any treacherous Igbo blooded man. They sell their own people to the enemy. It is as if all of them have sworn to an oath to kill and destroy their people for selfish political positions. Very disgracefully disheartening indeed.

Someone had said that the difference between school and life is that in the school, you are taught a lesson and then given a test but in real life, you are given a test which teaches you a lesson. A lot of times those tests sneak up on you and are over with you before you realize what happened. In life, the teacher does not come into the classroom to announce: “In the next few minutes, you are going to have an important test.

Please think carefully before answering, because the results of this test will affect you for years to come.” But instead, before you know it, you are already into the test situation. You take some decisions based on your thinking and behaviour up to that time, and you come out of the test without realizing immediately what just happened. Time reveals the results. But one thing is sure, these governors/politicians have chosen the wrong part. Esau sold his birthright for a POTTAGE and later regretted his actions. Just hope that someday, those who do the same thing like Esau, would always live to regret their actions.
