There is a general statement that defined the vital role of Courts in a democratic setting. It says that, court is the last hope of a common man, and nobody can ever oppose this notion. Court in its totality is bestowed with lots of high integrity and respect. Everyone has the opportunity to approach it despite the position one occupies in the society. With the high respect given to court institutions in the whole world, many see it as a sacred entity. It should be noted that court was instituted by the creator of the universe who understood the unstable nature of human beings. It can also be said that no matter the circumstances judges find themselves, it is impossible to compromise court processes or even think of setting a standard outside the rules and regulations or already set principles in an existent. I am saddened that court processes have been twisted and meddled with according to country’s focal ambitions not world set standard as it may be.
The level of Human Rights abuses in Africa more especially in Nigeria, is as a result of incompetent court processes. Court as the last hope of the common man has been politicized with religion, tribalism, nepotism/favouritism and financial perspectives with the hope of maintaining political will and ambitions against the oppressed in Nigeria. When a high institution like court has turned out to be a caricature before the common man then everyone is at the verge of being helpless as judgment will be in jeopardy. Suffice it to say that Nigerian Court is bent on encouraging corruption, exploitation, conflicts, killing, maiming or torture (both psychologically), bad leadership, and other social vices.
Court processes are meant to avert injustices on time, but the Nigerian court processes take long time without much expected outcomes, sometimes, it will be over taken by events. It is not surprising that after terrorizing the land of Biafra in the guise of python dance by Nigerian military, the Nigeria government headed to a court and obtained an order which empowered them to tag indigenous people of Biafra as a terrorist group without any evidence to substantiate the order. The world in response to that rejected the tag, warned and reminded them the consequences of such move. What surprised many was how they obtained court order without a fair hearing to that effect. And it is not surprising that the order is coming from a judge who is a beneficiary of injustice.
Nigerian Court is now politicized and cannot serve as the last hope of a common man. What this means according to democratic tenets is that Nigeria is a failed state and should be seen as one without wasting time and number. Since the court in Nigeria, is a tool or agent of government that aims at cementing the inhumane maltreatment from Nigerian government (office of inquisition), it is time for the world to look into all this and do the needful by supporting Biafran referendum, and anything shut of that will create more room for mass slaughtering or ethnic cleansing by Nigerian military nor police after being empowered by the so called Nigerian court to tag IPOB terrorist group. A stitch in time saves nine.
