Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has said the Sultanate Council was committed to the education of the girl-child, debunking the notion that Islam is against the education of women.
He also disclosed that preparations had reached advanced stage for the establishment of All- Women University of Medical Sciences in Sokoto state.
Speaking at the launch of three books on women scholars of the Caliphate authored by Dr. Sadiyya Bello of Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto Saturday, the monarch maintained that Islam encourages women to acquire education, contrary to insinuations that the religion abhors women acquiring education.
He noted the contributions of women scholars of the Caliphate and called on scholars to engage in research on the works of past leaders of the Sokoto Caliphate for the benefit of the society.
