Obiano-02The Niger Delta Renaissance Organization (NDRO), a pro-Jonathan group, has commended Anambra people for honouring the memory of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu by turning out in large numbers last weekend to vote for Chief Willie Obiano, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate during the governorship election in the state.

This was even as the Anambra State Chapter of the apex Igbo group Ohanaeze described the election as the best ever conducted in the state.

In a press statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Nwokoma Messiah, NDRO observed that regardless of INEC’s refusal to declare Obiano governor-elect, the released results showed that the people of the state demonstrated enough gratitude to the late Ikemba by voting for the candidate that stood election on the platform he bequeathed the Igbos.

“As partners in progress, the Niger Delta people will always identify with the administration of Governor Peter Obi and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for their support to President Jonathan during the 2011 general elections which witnessed 100% votes cast in favour of President Jonathan in the state,” NDRO stated. It expressed optimism that Anambrarians would once again turn out en-masse and vote for Obiano in the proposed supplementary election.

According to NDRO, “It will be an insult on the personal sacrifices of Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu if any other party is allowed to win Anambra State. That is why we as a people in the Niger Delta region, in full appreciation of the contributions of his party to the success of President Jonathan and the ceaseless support of Governor Peter Obi to the President, will not fail to rally Anambrarians in the entire Niger Delta region to turn out en-masse and vote Chief Obiano whenever INEC eventually gives a date for the rescheduled supplementary elections in some areas of the state.”

The group further observed that Anambra State had become a dependable ally to the presidency due to the consistent support of Governor Obi, adding: “It is our hope that the relationship between the President and Anambra State will blossom better under Willie Obiano.”

Meanwhile, the Anambra Ohanaeze has described the election as the best ever since the creation of Anambra State. The Chairman, Elder Chris Eluemuno, made this declaration while speaking with newsmen in Awka. He advised losers of the election to accept the people’s verdict and support the incoming administration of Chief Obiano to take Anambra to greater heights.
