The family of the late Super Eagles midfielder, Sam Okwaraji , has urged the Federal Government to name the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, after the fallen soccer star.
A bust of the late midfielder at the entrance of the stadium is the only reminder of how he died playing for Nigeria in a 1990 World Cup qualifier against Angola in 1989.
Okwaraji’s brother, Patrick, told africanFootball.com his family is disappointed the football star has yet to be immortalised by the country he represented very well.
“The Okwarajis will want the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, where Sam took his last breath, to be renamed after him,” Patrick Okwaraji told africanFootball.com
“This is not too much to do for a man who gave all to his country and died doing so.
“Nigeria should learn and start to celebrate our true heroes so as to encourage, inspire and motivate our people.
