By Ameh Comrade Godwin Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has described Nigeria as a nation in war, that needs competent leaders and not just prayers to survive.
Soyinka, who was a keynote speaker at a colloquium with the theme, Fundamental Imperatives of Cohabitation, Faith and Secularism, organised by Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding, CBCIU, Osogbo, attributed the ongoing activities in some parts of the country to lack of competent leaders.
While reacting to the Nyanya bomb blast, which left several dead yesterday, Soyinka called on relevant authorities to arrest those behind the cruel act.
The playwright rubbished a recent newspaper report, which quoted him as saying the ongoing events in the nation need prayers.
According to him, ”I have never said prayer can help resolve the security challenges facing Nigeria.
“I believe the situation must be tackled without partisanship and all these uninformed comments cannot help the situation.
“We should wake up to the reality. Nigeria is in war and only competence can solve the problem, not prayers.”
