Despite the plethora of frivolous legal suits initiated by the past Buhari’s administration against the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) movement, arrested/abducted members, as well as her currently embattled leader – Nnamdi Kanu, none of them have been able to hold any legal precedence to warrant a possible penalty.
In fact, at each ends of these legal proceedings, IPOB have always been summarily exonerated without any sort of reproach or reprimand, instead she will be given a “Victim’s Medal” to go home with. This indicates that the activities of the movement are guaranteed within the confines of the Nigeria and international law and that she has been persecuted wrongly.
Today, those who have chosen to play the cards of political correctness and sycophancy to curry favour in the sight of the newly inaugurated government of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, probably for more official appointments and promotions have decided to ignore these catalogue of glaring facts to falsely accuse IPOB of violent dispositions in the South East region.
It is the highest level of irresponsibility and insensitivity from the ruling party’s – APC spokesperson in the South East Dr Joseph Onoh, to counteract the unanimous calls of some Southeast governors, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other well-meaning individuals and groups for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as already ordered by the Nigerian Court of appeal and United Nations.
He said that IPOB is responsible for the insecurities that has bedevilled the South East in recent months and as such, the renditioned IPOB leader should continue to be held in solitary confinement until those who were affected by the insecurity are appeased and compensated.
However, it is important to note that IPOB is not responsible for the allegations trotted by Dr Onoh. IPOB’s method towards actualising her goal of a United Nations supervised referendum as a self-determination movement, has always been civil disobedience and peaceful protests and even in the face of extrajudicial provocation by the Security Forces, this mode of operation has not changed.
Secondly, it is quite illogical to say that IPOB kills innocent civilians, who in reality are her actual registered members or others who shares a great deal of sympathy with the Biafra cause and sentiment.
It is a Public knowledge that the government have sponsored operations of infiltration, Trojan horses and agent provocateur deployed to blackmail or impersonate any individual or group to submission and possible destruction. This is what the past administration used against IPOB in the South East region.
Suffice to say, a recent report has revealed that the Buhari’s administration had spent a whopping $670 million in two notable countries — America and United Kingdom in a bid to blacklist the Eastern Security Network (ESN), IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu as terror entities. But it is quite unfortunate that the state-sponsored insecurities deployed to blackmail the above-mentioned trios, has not only failed in providing the required result but has led to numerous deaths of many Igbo Biafran youths, wanton destruction of properties in Southeast since the extraordinary rendition of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria in 2021.
Probably, as a result of the Igbophobic Euphemism and nepotism obtained in the Nigeria Political system and a fear of being purged out without equivocation as his kinsmen, Dr Onoh decided to assure the New government of his fawning loyalty and thereby making such an unguided statement against the truth and his own people.
Nevertheless, the reality remains that Unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu is not only legally guaranteed but also Internationally ratified by the United Nations working group, his further detention is an underlying catastrophe to the government and they know it. No country would want to cooperate with a lawless government that has no regard for even their own court.
As far as common sense and logical facts applies, IPOB/ESN are not responsible for the senseless unrests in Southeast rather, are the one protecting and defending the Southeastern from the unabated rampage by Fulani terror herdsmen ravaging the whole of Nigeria.
Persons like Dr. Onoh should acquire some self-dignity and understand that standing with your people in the time of turbulence always pay well in the long run.
