NBA President, Mr. Okey WaliThe  Nigerian Bar Association said on Thursday that the unabated loss of  lives in bomb attacks in the country was an indication that the efforts  of the Federal Government to tackle insecurity were not yielding  results. In a statement by its President, Mr. Okey  Wali (SAN), the NBA reminded the government that its basic  responsibility was to protect lives and property of the citizens. The NBA condemned the Wednesday’s blast  in Abuja, and urged the government to do more to bring the dastardly  acts of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, to an end.Twenty one persons reportedly died in the  attack at EMAB Plaza, one of the busiest shopping complexes in Abuja,  while 17 others were injured.Wali said the nation could not afford to continue to lose its citizens as if their lives had no value. The statement read in part, “This latest  bomb explosion brings to the fore the need for the Federal Government of  Nigeria to intensify efforts in bringing these acts of terrorism and  insurgency to an end.“We can no longer afford to keep losing human lives as if they no longer have value.“We also remind the Federal Government  that further to the principle of social contract, Nigerian citizens  surrendered their sovereignty to the country in return for protection by  the state.”
