The Supreme Igbo Security Council, a group committed to peace on Thursday said it would support President Goodluck Jonathan for second term if he indicated his interest.

The President of the council, Mr Bobby Ukadike, made the declaration while addressing journalists in Abuja.

He said that the North and South had had a fair share of the office of the president, saying that other parts of the country should be given a chance to lead as well.

Ukadike said that in spite of many challenges ravaging the polity, President Goodluck Jonathan had delivered dividends of democracy to the

citizens of the country.

“It is not the turn of the North or the South to rule Nigeria now; President Jonathan should be allowed to have his second term in office.

“It is the turn of the Ndigbo to produce the next president of Nigeria immediately after President Jonathan’s second term in office,’’ he said.

He said that the Igbos were an integral part of country, saying that the office of the president was not a monopoly of any of the regions of the country.

Ukadike appealed to the leadership of the insurgents in the country to stop the bloodshed and come to a round table with the Federal Government for a compromise.

He said that the appeal became necessary for the restoration of peace, especially in the North eastern of the country. (NAN)
