Abia State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Kenneth Nwosu, was on Wednesday night shot by gunmen in Olokoro in Umuahia South Local Government Area of the state.
He was shot while returning to his house from an official outing in Umuahia, the state capital.
Nwosu was, however, lucky to have survived the gun attack and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Umuahia.
A source said he was attacked at a spot after the bridge leading to Olokoro and close to his house.
However, it was not clear whether the attack was an assassination attempt or a case of armed robbery.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adamu Ibrahim, confirmed the attack but said no arrest had been made at press time.
He confirmed in a telephone conversation that the commissioner was shot on Wednesday night while returning to his house in Olokoro.
“It was last night while he was returning to his house in Olokoro. He was shot almost close to his house, just before the bridge,” the police boss said, adding that Nwosu was responding to treatment.
“We have not made any arrest yet but we are on the trail,” Adamu said.
