Fresh crisis is rocking the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC) over the selection of a new leadership that excludes the National Coordinator, Otunba Gani Adams, who has been locked in a leadership tussle with OPC Founder, Dr. Frederick Fasheun, for several years now.

The outgoing EXCO, through its spokesman, Comrade Olusola Ajayi, has vowed not to recognise the names of new executives of the Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group published in a national daily yesterday on the grounds that they were not democratically elected.

A Daily Sun report quoted an enraged Ajayi as saying that the new EXCO was single-handedly selected by Fasheun. Ajayi reportedly said: “We had approached Chief Fasheun on the need to elect a new executive for the OPC and make him our grand patron, since he is now the leader of a political party going by the name Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN. This step is necessary, as we do not want OPC to be seen as being partisan.

“He (Fasheun) had agreed with us on this step, but we are surprised to see a list of new EXCO of the OPC being published in a national daily today, October 1. The fact that our dear leader, Dr. Gani Adams’ name is missing and also that the list published has not been democratically arrived at and may stir controversy in the group and we want to prevent that. So, we are calling for a democratic way of choosing new national excos for the group.”

Daily Sun said that efforts to get Fasheun to comment on the development did not yield results as he did not pick his call nor respond to text messages.
