Expired Country on Edge: VP Sambo pledges government’s commitment to security

The Vice President visited victims of the EMAB Plaza blast.

The Vice President of Nigeria, Namadi Sambo, has said that despite the incidents of insecurity across the country, the Nigerian government is committed to the security of lives and property.

Mr. Sambo said perpetrators of evil cannot dampen the spirit of Nigerians with their evil acts. He said terror would never gain ground in Nigeria or anywhere else in the world.

The Vice President spoke on Thursday when he visited the site of the bomb blast at the EMAB Plaza Wuse II and also the injured victims who were admitted at the Maitama General Hospital, Abuja.

Mr. Sambo, while condoling with the families of the victims of the bomb blast, charged Nigerians to be extra security conscious and vigilant. He appealed for cooperation with security agencies as they tackle crime and criminality in the country.

He said, “This cowardly and unjust act will be defeated; evil can never be sustained. Insha Allah, this administration and Mr. President will not leave any stone unturned until we defeat these terrorists. Terrorism cannot survive in Nigeria or in any part of this world.

“We are doing everything possible and exerting every effort to ensure that within the shortest possible time it will become a thing of the past. I want to assure all Nigerians that the government is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of lives and property of all Nigerians and our visitors.”

The Vice President enjoined all Nigerians to be very vigilant, very observant and report any suspicious act to the security agencies.
“I want to also urge us to resume our normal duties, our normal services and to cooperate with the administration so that we will jointly succeed in solving this problem,” he said.

The Vice President, after inspecting the site of the bomb blast, later visited the injured victims affected by the blast and admitted at the Maitama General Hospital. He gave all the injured victims and the families that lost their loved ones words of encouragements.

He was also briefed by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 7, Suleiman Abba, on the police’s preliminary investigations.

The police had on Wednesday said at least 21 persons died, while 17 were injured from the explosion.

Mr. Sambo was accompanied by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim; Minister of the FCT, Bala Usman; Minister of Interior, Abba Morro; Minister of State Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro; and the Minister of State, FCT, Olajumoke Akinjide.

Others were the Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh, and the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, among others.
