millionmanmarchawkaYoung men of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) estimated to be about 100,000 stormed Awka, the Anambra State capital, Saturday, evening and immediately overwhelmed the city.

They took over control of vehicular traffic in the city and caused great traffic gridlock as commuters moving in and out of Awka were stranded.

They wore T-Shirt and carried banners painted in defunct Biafra colour. They also carried banners with inscription ‘Radio Biafra’.

They entered the capital through many routes in their thousands causing a major scare. Some of them carried their own food and water, ate and drank as they settle down.

However, they were not violent.

They vowed that they will not rest until the agitation for Biafra is achieved.

The Lagos coordinator of the group, Ikedigwe Raphael, said in an interview that they took off from Agbor in Delta state on Friday heading to Ebonyi state

He said IPOB was divided into two sessions comprising group A: Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, Akwa-Ibom and Cross River states.

While group B comprised of Anambra, Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi, adding that their group saw any other state that was not among the names as a Zoo.

Another member of the group, Obinna Remigus Ani, said that they would continue the peaceful protest until Nnamdi Kanu, Benjamin Onwuka and others were released.

He said their protest was being carried all over the world, adding that they were different from Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), but pursuing the same agenda.

Also speaking, Osita Amechina said the police had not attacked them, while the group marched to the state government lodge in Awka, but met the resistance of the combined team of the police and military.

Nevertheless, there was no report of clashes between the police and members of IPOB.

It was learnt that the group marched through Onitsha-Enugu road while some traveled by vehicles, observed by the police.
