It was an anxious moment this morning at Eke-Ozi market in Igbo-Eze Local Government Area of Enugu State,
South-East Nigeria, when traders and shoppers ran helter-skelter following the discovery of an object suspected to be a bomb.
Apprehension soon gripped residents as rumours started flying about that a bomb had exploded in the market but that turned out to be a false alarm.
A source who spoke to News Express said: “No bomb exploded. What happened was that a strange-looking object suspected to be a bomb was discovered in the market, leading to pandemonium. Security men soon came and took away the object and restored normalcy.”
News Express reports that although Boko Haram’s terrorist activities have been restricted to the Muslim-dominated North of Nigeria, tension has lately gripped the South following the arrest of suspected Boko Haram members in parts of the South and the discovery of a bomb in a church in the south-eastern state of Imo.
