At least 42 people were in the early hours of yesterday killed when some suspected members of Boko Haram sect attacked three border villages of Kanari, Wazarde and Gula villages of Gamboru Ngala Local Government area of Borno State.

Just on May 5, 2014, Gamboru Ngala was on fire, when some terrorists ambushed its main market, killing over 300 people, including 16 policemen and other traders from Cameroon Republic, while the entire market and some vehicles were set ablaze.

This is coming barely 24 hours after some members of the sect laid in ambush on three emirs of Askira, Uba and Gwoza emirates, killing Alhaji Idrissa Shehu Timta, Emir of Gwoza along Gombi – Garkida- Biu road on Friday when they were travelling to attend the burial of the late Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Usman Shehu Abubakar.

The slain Gwoza emir amidst tight security has since been buried in Gwoza town yesterday according to Islamic rites with Governor Kashim Shettima, his Deputy, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District among other dignitaries in attendance.

Our Correspondent gathered from sources that armed terrorists group using Toyota Hilux vehicles with Ak47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and petrol bombs invaded the three border villages of Ngala at about 3am yesterday, spent over 7 hours shooting sporadically at fleeing residents, killing over 42 people in separate attacks on the villages, carting away food stuff and livestock before destroying houses, shops and vehicles.

Another source added that the gunmen had a field day as they wrecked havoc on innocent civilians before they fled at about 9:30am into the bush. He noted that in the separate attacks, all the villages are now deserted as those who were lucky to have escaped the deadly attacks are now taking refuge in Ngala town and other neighbouring villages of Cameroon Republic.

Also, a BBC Hausa service programme monitored by our Correspondent in Maiduguri stated that over 42 people were killed in a fresh Boko Haram attacks on three villages of Ngala yesterday, even as it was reported that the Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Lawal Tanko, when contacted by the BBC reporter, said that “he is not aware of the incidents”.

However, a top security source who is not authorized to speak to the press confirmed the separate attacks on Borno border villages of Gamboru Ngala yesterday which he said ‘had claimed over 40 lives, with two of the entire villages set ablaze’.
