MAKURDI—THE Air Officer Commanding , AOC, Tactical Air Command, Nigerian Air Force, NAF, Air Vice Marshal, AVM, Umar Omeiza yesterday said that “the activities of the Boko Haram terrorists,’’ had become ‘’a serious challenge to the Nigeria Armed Forces.”

Omeiza noted that the sect was threatening the peace and security of the country

pointing out that terrorism was a global phenomenon, “and combating its menace requires the cooperation of the entire global community.’’

He spoke at the meeting of officers and supervisors of the Directorate of Air Intelligence, DAI, held at NAF Base, Makurdi, the Benue state capital.
His words, “Nigeria had in the last few years been faced with heightened level of insecurity of different forms and shades.

”The increasing sophistication of the terrorist attacks and their proficiency in the use of Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, make increasing use of proactive intelligence a panacea for decisive action.

”With the ongoing military action in which the NAF is actively involved, I am persuaded that the menace of the Boko Haram terrorists will soon become history, but we must have all hands on deck in this fight and intelligence operators must be at their best at a time like this.”
Earlier, the Director of Air Intelligence, Air Commodore Kayode Adediji had said that the emerging security challenges facing the country called for new strategies to counter them.
