Bishop Kukah

Bishop KukahThe Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Hassan Kukah, on Monday said that he felt more secure in Sokoto than in any other part of the country.Kukah made the assertion in Sokoto during a media round table.“Sokoto is the most peaceful state where Christians and Muslims stay with one another peacefully”, he said.He said that the exemplary leadership of Gov. Aliyu Wamakko had made it possible for the people of different tribes, religious and political opinions to live in peace.Kukah stressed that there was no alternative to peace, urging Nigerians to shun all tendencies that would create conflict in the country.“It is only by so doing that the abundant human and mineral resources in the country would be tapped, for the overall political growth of the nation”, he said. The Bishop attributed the nation’s set back to lack of political will by leaders to propel the country to “the Promised Land”.“Unless Nigerians, especially those at the helm of affairs put the interest of the nation at heart, the followers will not have a sense of direction.“We should be thinking of how to develop our energy and how to improve power supply.“This is what we are supposed to be doing, but unfortunately it was the other way round”, the cleric added. He therefore urged Nigerians to be patriotic in any capacity they find themselves, and urged politicians to shun violence in the build up to the 2015 election. The cleric advised the Federal Government to ensure that the forth coming general elections were conducted peacefully.
