The Nigerian Army at the weekend said it has concluded all arrangements for its men and officers to be tested on their dexterity in handling weapons

But contrary to speculations that the test was in preparation for any threat of attack by Boko Haram sect, a statement signed by Col. Texas Chukwu, a Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Army Headquarters, 3 Division and made available to Sunday Mirror in Jos yesterday explained that the exercise which he said involves shooting is meant for soldiers of the 43 Division undergoing basic Engineering course for the year 2014.

According to him, the two day shooting exercise which will start from tomorrow, Monday, July 21, 2014, at the 3 Division Military Shooting Range Miango in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State “is part of the course programme for Week 6 which is meant to test soldiers ability on weapon handling and accuracy in firing”, adding that the exercise will also involve the use of explosives as well as other accessories expected to generate sound.

The statement while alerting members of the general public in state especially residents of Miango, Jebbu Bassa, Rukkuba, Fulani cattle rearers, farmers and other communities within the range to be aware and avoid panic also added that there will be sporadic or mass movement of personnel vehicles and equipment.
