No fewer than four people were killed in front of the Zamfara State Government House, Gusau, yesterday when supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, clashed over the sharing formula of an undisclosed amount of money given to them by a prominent politician who visited Governor Abdulaziz Yari.
The politician (name withheld) defected to APC and was at the Government House to affirm his loyalty to the governor.
Nigerian Pilot learnt that when the crisis started between two groups in the APC over the loot, mobile policemen were quickly deployed to the scene by the State Police Commissioner to prevent the situation from degenerating but the feuding parties defiled the security agents’ plea to refrain from violence.
An eyewitness said when the police saw that the party supporters were bent on disrupting the peace in the metropolis, they dispersed them with teargas but they regrouped behind the Government House and continued with their free-for-all, where four people were killed and several others wounded.
Sources said that majority of those who sustained serious injuries were invited from other local government areas to Gusau for the solidarity visit by the politician to the Government House.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawal Abdullahi, did not respond to our correspondent’s enquiries on the matter.
