The residence of President- General of Egi Peoples Assembly (EPA), in Ogbogu in Ogba /Egbema /Nodoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Oris Onyiri, has been bombed. Two persons died in the attack, which occurred at about 10pm, Wednesday . One of the victims was said to be a relative of Chief Onyiri, popularly called Stainless, while the other was a member of the terror gang, who was shot dead during a gun duel with some security men. Other members of the gang, it was further gathered, escaped after one of them was killed. Daily Sun gathered that Chief Onyiri was not at home when the bandits, who arrived on a motorcycle, came to detonate the explosive, which damaged part of a bungalow in his compound. Chief Onyiri, a former secretary of the state’s chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the Odili administration, is said to be a supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan. He is also said to be a strong supporter of the state Chairman, Chief Felix Obuah. There is also speculation that the state’s coordinator of SURE-P, may have been tipped to be the campaign director of Chief Nyesom Wike governorship campaign organisation. There had been a running battle between PDP and All Progressives Congress (APC) members in the area in recent times. On Saturday, April 12, 2014, for instance, PDP accused APC members of attacking its secretariat at Omoku, also in Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government Area. Calls to the police command for comments were not picked at press time.
