16 ‘female bombers’ held in training

by: Kolade Adeyemi, Kano Man believed to be training female bombers was arrested yesterday in Kano.
Also arrested with Ibrahim Ibrahim, were the 16 girls who security agents said were being trained as would-be bombers.
Sources in Kano said the teenage girls were arrested when security men swooped on the place were they were being trained following a tip-off.
Joint Task Force (JTF) officers carried out the raid. Ibrahim  is believed to be  of would-be suicide bombers.
Last month, a 10-year -old girl was arrested along with a man – both wired up and on a suicide bombing mission –  in Funtua, Katsina State.
There have been a series of female suicide bombings in the North in recent times.
Most of the young girls are usually dressed in hijab, under which they carry the lethal objects which they detonate at designated places. Many people have been killed in Kano, Kaduna and in Borno states by female suicide bombers.
JTF spokesman Capt. Ikechukwu Eze confirmed the arrest, saying investigation was ongoing.
