The police at the ‘B’ Division, Asaba, Delta State, have  arrested a housewife identified as Rosemary Edeh for allegedly stealing a  five-year-old girl under the custody of a house help around Okwue  community in the state.
Reports said the suspect was arrested in her attempt to run away with  the baby after deceiving the custodian that she was going to buy  biscuits for her a few houses away from the scene of the crime.
Police officers at the division who spoke to LEADERSHIP on the  condition of anonymity said the woman lured the house help to come to  her house with the little girl after the parents of the baby had gone to  the farm and oblivious of her intentions, the house help took the girl  to her house where she was served a meal of pounded yam, after which the  woman went out with the baby under the guise of buying biscuits for  her.
The house help was said to have while eating, suspected foul play and  she moved to the house of another neighbour where she informed a man of  the woman’s uncomfortable actions and the man was said to have  immediately swung into action to put the police on alert after which  they were said to have laid siege for the unsuspecting housewife.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the suspect has been married for 15 years  without a child and has been facing pressure to either give the family  children or vacate the matrimonial home.
She was said to have contemplated adopting a child but was advised by  a friend she told of her plan not to venture into such, saying that if  she adopted a child, it might blow open in no distant time.
