From Desmond Mgboh, Kano

Members of Boko Haram yesterday, attacked a police station in Sumaila town in Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State. The incident happened at about 8.45pm immediately after market activities in the town.

Witnesses said a gang of the insurgents raided the station, located near the market, on motorbike.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Magaji Majiya, said the attack was successfully repelled by the policemen on duty, who engaged them for close to 15 minutes before they fled.

He said there was no loss of life or injury on the part of the police or members of the community, adding that the police had launched a manhunt for the fleeing insurgents.

Meanwhile, the police in Kano have warned against trespass into boarding schools in the state for the purposes of playing football or any other game.

The spokesman of the police said the measure was to ensure the security of boarding children, adding that the measure became necessary in view of the movement of unauthorised  persons into schools in the name of playing games.
