Suspected Boko Haram militants yesterday killed 12 people in Garubula village of Biu

local Government area of Borno state, a security source as well as a community member have just disclosed to SaharaReporters.

One source said some gunmen stormed the residence of a district head, Ibrahim Dawi, shot him several times, and then killed 11 other villagers.

A local resident, Marri Ahmed, 60, said the militants arrived in the village at 11:30 a.m. and opened fire indiscriminately on the villagers killing 12, including the district head and some of his guards. Many others were injured.

“The district head was shot by the gunmen on his head and was taken to Biu General Hospital where they pronounced him dead,” said the source.

The source said no security agents were present in the community during the attack. “The attackers executed their mission and left free,” said the source.

“The federal government should do something urgently before the terrorists take over the area. The terrorists have succeeded in sending away the people of Damboa and other communities of Madafuma, Mandaragirau in Biu Council area. If something is not done urgently, they will also sack our communities,” said the resident of the besieged town.

Boko Haram militants seem to have intensified their violent operations in the southern area of Borno State. For more than a week, the terrorists have seized Damboa township and other surrounding communities which are now no-go area for Nigerian troops.
