It appears that Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State may not present himself

for a rerun of the governorship seat of the state come 2015. Instead, he might be opting for the highest position in the land, the Presidency.

This indication was dropped by Governor Okorocha yesterday during an interaction with some newsmen at the Government House, Owerri.

The governor said after several months of keeping silence over the issue, he had concluded plans to take a shot at the presidency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He nevertheless disclosed that there are intense pressures on him to continue for a second time as governor of Imo State. In the words of Governor Okorocha, “I am considering giving a shot at the presidency of this country. I believe inside me that I can transform Nigeria within a short time. But the pressure is much from Imo people to continue as governor.”

The governor, however, boasted that it would be very difficult for any governor both past and coming to match his achievements within the past three years he had assumed leadership of the state.

While appealing to critics to judge his administration according to income that comes into the state, Governor Okorocha disclosed that with a meagre allocation of N179 billion that Imo State received from the Federation Account past three years, 60 per cent went into recurrent expenditure.

In addition to the expenditure, he said that free education of his administration also takes a chunk of the revenue, adding that it cost him about N250, 000 to train a child in the state.
