Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero has assured the Igbo community in the state of his administration’s commitment to the security of their members and property.
Speaking when he received a delegation of the Igbo community, who paid him courtesy call at the Government House yesterday, Yero said as law abiding citizens, members of the Igbo Community in the state should feel at home and go about their businesses without fear of intimidation.
He said: “I want to assure you that you will continue to be safe and your businesses will continue to be safe in Kaduna State.
“For me, a Nigerian is a Nigerian, free to live in any part of the country, as long as you are going to live in peace with the people you met there.”
The governor called on Nigerians to de-emphasize differences in tribes, religious and political affiliations stressing that “it is best to set aside our differnces and live as one people. We need to integrate and live together in peace, that is the only way to build a strong nation.”
Governor Yero also thanked the Igbo Community for positively contributing to the economy and security of the State, adding that the state was currently witnessing increase in business activities and required provision of critical infrastructures to take care of rapid urban expansion.
In his speech earlier, the Eze Igbo of Kaduna State, Igwe Sir Engr Sylvanus Aneke thanked Governor Yero for appointing a member of the Igbo Community, Mr Eugene Modebe as a Special Assistant.
He said “by this appointment, you have demonstrated that you are one of the few nationalistic Nigerians. You have shown that tribes and tongues may differ, but we remain one people with one destiny.”
The Eze Igbo on behalf of the entire Igbos residing in Kaduna declared support for programmes and aspiration of the Yero administration, which he said were clearly improving the living conditions of people in the State.
He also congratulated the governor on the sustained peaceful atmosphere among all tribes since he assumed office in 2012.
The Igbo Community also disclosed plans to commence sensitization campaign on the forthcoming voter registration exercise in the State, with Governor Yero calling on the community to expand the activity to other communities across the State.
