These are curious times. International Criminal Court (ICC) has received nothing less than 131 petitions against Rtd. General Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian President and his government but the court has never interviewed Buhari on the issues, or seem to have kicked off any investigations.

Instead, the world was shocked that ICC President, Chile Eboe-Osuji, invited Buhari to give a keynote address at the ICC 20th Anniversary celebration at The Hague, today, July 17, 2018.

Since he became President of the court early this year, Chile Eboe-Osuji, have surprised many people with his actions about Nigeria. He surprised not a few when he visited Nigeria in April 10-13, 2018. There he called on Nigerian government, headed by Buhari, to give support to fight impunity in the world, especially in Africa. Many people were surprised because Buhari, the Nigeria ruler, has himself been impunity personified.

How could the situation be reconciled with Eboh-Osuji’s declaration during the visit that victims of injustice were at the heart of the Court’s mandate? He explained that the aim was to provide justice to those who have suffered the worst atrocities, as well as protect populations from future crimes.
Meanwhile, this man could not in any way claim not to be aware of Buhari’s atrocities before and after he was rigged into office by President Barack Obama in 2015.

There is no way Eboe-Osuji could convince anyone that he was ignorant of the evils Buhari has unleashed on Biafrans, after all, he hails from there. Is he saying he does not know of Buhari’s pathological hatred for Biafrans? It will be most appalling if the ICC President claims he had taken these actions because he was ignorant of the huge petitions by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), and others from various rights group had sent to the court.

The ICC was petitioned last year to investigate the alleged killings, torture and human rights abuses of IPOB members by soldiers of the Nigerian Army, even as we wait endlessly for their response, Buhari’s ethnic militants, the Fulani herdsmen, are busy killing Christians in the middle-belt as part of his Islamization agenda till date the perpetrators of this crime against humanity are yet to be brought to book.

But in spite of these, ICC under Eboh-Osuji invited Rtd. General Muhammadu Buhari to give a keynote address in a prominent activity at ICC 20th Anniversary celebration. This is why the question on the lips of many people today is: “Has Eboh-Osuji sold his birthright?
