Gunmen have attacked residents of Fadan Karshi in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing five
persons including two policemen.
The council Chairman, Emmanuel Adamu, who confirmed the attack, said those injured were being treated at a hospital in the area.
According to eyewitness account, the gunmen stormed the community at about 8p.m. on Tuesday and shot sporadically.
Reacting to the incident in a statement yesterday, Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero condoled with families of the victims, describing the attack as unwarranted and a provocative attempt by hoodlums to throw the state into confusion.
In the statement signed by his Director General (Media and Publicity), Ahmed Maiyaki, the governor said: “We call on the people of Fadan Karshi and other parts of the state to remain calm as security forces have already been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
“We should remain united and resolute in resisting obvious attempts by agents of darkness to create confusion and sow seeds of discord in our state.
“The security agencies have already commenced investigation into the matter and are on the tracks of the criminals and no stone shall be left unturned in our resolve to bring perpetrators of this attack and all other criminal assault on our people in the past to justice.
“We call on the people of Kaduna State to continue to live in peace with one another and to be more vigilant in observing happenings in their areas with a view to assisting security agencies with relevant information on suspicious persons and movements within and around their communities.”
