Jim Furyk and Mike Weir have been named as the final assistant captains of this year’s Presidents Cup teams.

Furyk joins Fred Couples, Davis Love and Tiger Woods in backing up US captain Steve Stricker, while Canadian Weir will assist International skipper Nick Price alongside Ernie Els, Tony Johnstone and Geoff Ogilvy.

The American’s appointment means a second stint as assistant after he filled the role in 2015, the 2018 Ryder Cup captain has also played in the event seven times.

He said: “I love the Presidents Cup and the strategy, camaraderie and competition that make it so special, so to be able to work with Steve in the lead up to the event will be a lot of fun.”

Stricker said: “You can’t have a team competition in golf – for the USA – and not include Jim Furyk.

“Knowing Jim, he’ll make the US team as a player, but regardless I’m honoured he’s agreed to lend his time and perspective to me as we get ready for the 2017 Presidents Cup.”

Weir, a five-time participant as a player, said: “The Presidents Cup has been such a big part of my professional career, and some of my fondest memories are from the competition.”

This year’s Presidents Cup runs from September 26 to October 1 at Liberty National in New Jersey, where the US will be aiming for a seventh straight outright win.
