A fresh oil spill has reportedly occurred along a pipeline belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company,

NAOC, in Kalaba community, Bayelsa State.

Though the cause of the spill could not be ascertained, at press time, a source told Vanguard that it was noticed last week by the community folks who were returning from their farm.
The spill, which is spewing crude oil into the environment, according to the sources, has been reported to the company for necessary action.

Lamenting the incessant spill in the area, the Youth President of the community, Mr. Samuel Oburo, while conducting the Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria, ERA/FoEN, led by its Bayelsa State Coordinator, Mr. Alagoa Morris, round the spill site, said: “As you can see,  the crude oil is spewing and spreading into the environment.

“It is sad that this has continued to occur in this area. I don’t know the cause of the spill as the JIV process is yet to be initiated to determine its cause.”
He called on the company to take steps to ensure the integrity of its facility in order to avoid spills that may result from integrity issues.

Also reacting to the latest spill, ERA Field Coordinator in the state, Morris stressed the need for all stakeholders to have regard for the environment by maintaining and engaging in environmentally friendly and sustainable standards.
