Canada gives $5m for Nigeria’s 2015 polls

The Canadian government has said it was satisfied with Nigeria’s democratic credentials and promised to provide the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) with $5 million to conduct the 2015 general elections.The Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Chris Cooter, said at an interactive session with the media and civil society groups on Sunday in Benin city, that his country was impressed with INEC’s conduct of the 2011 general elections and other subsequent elections in some states of the federation.


Bus preacher beaten to coma in Lagos after condoms fell out from his bible

A bus preacher was almost lynched on Saturday morning at Toyota Bus stop, in front of the popular Ladipo Spare parts market, when some condoms allegedly fell out of his bible as he preached the ‘Word of God’.DailyPost gathered that the self acclaimed Man of God was dragged out of the commercial bus and beaten into a pulp before he was rescued by some policemen.

The rising West-African al-Qaeda

The Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa, an offshoot of the al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, has grown in reach and sophistication, since October 2011 when it became active. The group announced its first armed action on video on December 12, 2011, with the intended goal of spreading Jihad across West Africa.It released a video that referenced its ideological affinity for such figures as al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden and Taliban leader Mullah Omar but placed greater emphasis on historical figures of West African origin, claiming to be the “ideological descendants” of Usman Dan Fodio, Cheikhou Amadou, and el Hadj Umar Tall.

Ohanaeze will support Jonathan in 2015

The Igbo apex socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has said President Goodluck Jonathan can count on the support of the South-East, if he contests for a second term in 2015.The National Publicity Secretary, Ohanaeze, Tony Oganah, told SUNDAY PUNCH that the people of the South-East were excited with Jonathan’s efforts at developing the region and would vote for him in 2015 like they did in 2011.
