Northern Nigeria kicking against ban on Boko Haram

The North on Wednesday disagreed with the National Assembly on the proscription of two Islamic miltant groups – Boko Haram and Ansaru–by President Goodluck Jonathan.While the North through its two prominent groups, the Arewa Consultative Forum and the Northern Elders Forum, faulted the ban, the National Assembly insisted that it was a welcome development.


US issues travel warning on Nigeria

The United States has issued fresh travel alert on Nigeria, warning its citizens not to travel to North and nine other states in South.The US predicated the alert on the emergency rule in Yobe, Adamawa and Borno states, saying extremists could expand their operations beyond the three states to other parts of the country.“The ability  of the mission to provide assistance to US citizens in those states remains severely limited,” the US government stated in an updated alert on Monday.

The Chaplin, Plateau State Government House, Chidi Ebere has disputed insinuations and prophecies making the rounds in the country that Nigeria may disintegrate during or after 2015 general elections, saying that “The country will be at peace beyond 2015”.The Cleric stated this while fielding questions from journalists in Jos, on the nation’s 14 years of uninterrupted democratic rule.He recalled several stories of disintegration, prior to the 2007 and 2011 polls, but said the country had remained an indivisible entity.According to him, those who are spreading rumours of disintegration do not mean well for the country, and Nigerians should be weary of such persons whoever they claim to be.“Nigerians must believe only in the power of God, who has the right to offer political, economic and power of destiny”.

Police and MASSOB clash in Anambra 11 injured 5 arrested

No fewer than 11 members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, were yesterday at Nnobi and Awka-Etiti communities, Idemili South Local Government Areas of Anambra State, allegedly shot  and injured by the police in a bid to disrupt their June 8 sit-at-home rally. Five others were arrested.

Abdulsalami said don’t victimise repentant B’Haram members

FORMER Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar has appealed to members of the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenge in the North to protect repentant Boko Haram members from victimisation by the Federal Government.Abubakar urged the amnesty panel to ensure that the militant sect’s members that voluntarily give themselves up should be protected from being victimised by the authorities.
