Senator Paulinus raises alarm over infiltration of terrorists into Ebonyi

ABAKALIKI — CHAIRMAN Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Paulinus Igwe-Nwagu, yesterday, raised alarm that suspected terrorists were gradually infiltrating Ebonyi State from Niger Republic and other parts of Africa.  Receiving the leadership and members of Ebonyi State council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, at his country home at Oriuzor, Ebonyi State, Igwe Nwagu, who represents Ebonyi Central senatorial zone of the state, asserted that he had received reliable information that the terrorists masquerade as herdsmen who had infiltrated the state in their numbers.

UNI of UYO crisis 5 student leaders killed in auto accident

The crisis that engulfed the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State, which led to the killing of a student and the closure of the institution, yesterday claimed the lives of the Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, and four others in a ghastly motor accident. Seven other students also sustained serious injuries. The accident, which occurred at Ariam in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State on the Umuahia- Ikot Ekpene road, involved a Hiace bus in which the students were travelling in and a trailer that was coming from Akwa Ibom State.

Investigations into the activities of the co-owner of Amigo Supermarket, Mustapha Fawaz, and three other Lebanese – Abdalah Tahini, Talal Rouda and Khosai Nouridine – arrested in connection with the armoury and Hezbollah terror cell in Bompai, Kano State, have taken an international dimension, according to the State Security Service. Also, preliminary investigations have established a more serious case of terrorism against the Lebanese suspects.

Workers in Imo state threaten to strike over welfare

The leadership of the Imo State Joint Negotiating Council, JNC, Thursday, issued a stern warning that it might be constrained to call out workers again on industrial action if the state government failed to address the myriads of workers’ problems. JNC Chairman, Comrade Coleman Okwara, read the riot act when he addressed workers at the State Secretariat Complex, Port Harcourt Road, Owerri. Okwara said: “My dear, your leadership may be forced to call you all out on industrial action if government fails to comprehensively address all the grievances presented to it by labour”.

About 104 suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, currently being held at the Kirikiri Minimum and Maximum prisons, Lagos, might soon be released. Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North, Tanimu Turaki, disclosed this to newsmen, yesterday, when he led the committee on a visit to members of the sect in the prisons in Lagos State.

Police Kills 4 at Uni of Uyo

Information available to 247ureports.com indicates a riot has broken out that the University of Uyo [UNIUYO] in Akwa Ibom State – where the students have set a riot over the shooting of four students by the Nigerian police. An Uyo-based journalist, Akaninyene Oton, named Kingsley Okon Edet a.k.a Kesy as one of those shot dead by the police. He said that the offices of the Vice Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Comfort Memfin Ekpo, and the Registrar have been burnt down. “UNIUYO right now is still burning as police take over adjoining streets,” Oton said.
