THE leader of the extremist Boko Haram sect,  Abubakar Shekau, has, in a video released to journalists, threatened more attacks against Nigeria, saying his members would target Nigeria’s sources of revenue, and her refineries.Shekau, who is wanted for terrorism by both Nigeria and the U.S., also vowed to kill major Islamic clerics and people that support democracy,  western education, and Christianity.He said the state of emergency currently in place in Adamawa. Borno, and Yobe, could not deter his group, and called on his members in other states, particularly Kano, to attack civilians and government institutions.

Suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has stated that he would challenge the power of President Goodluck Jonathan to remove him from office.He also affirmed that his removal was due to his comments against corruption in the system.Sanusi, who was said to be out of the country when his suspension was announced, told CNBC Africa that the President does not have the constitutional authority to remove him from office.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has urged Nigerians to transform agricultural practices into agric-business, saying the nation can survive without oil if this is done.A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, noted that Ahmed said this in Kaduna at a lecture organised by the Arewa Consultative Forum, titled, “Northern Nigeria economy free of oil revenue.”The governor said the practice of agric-business be focused on value addition to develop the economy and provide jobs.He stressed that for this to be possible, the demand-driven approach which would allow farmers know the markets available for their produce be introduced.

How the plot to suspend Sanusi was hatched

The plot to suspend Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was to be carried out last week through the Senate, it was learnt yesterday.The Presidency opted to suspend Sanusi before the expiration of his tenure to pay him back for the alleged leakage of a letter to the President on the ‘missing’ $20billion oil cash, The Nation was told.There were indications last night that Sanusi, who flew into Lagos from Niamey, Niger Republic, had interaction with security agents before moving into a private home in Ikoyi.Investigation by our correspondent revealed that based on a report of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), the Presidency lobbied some of its loyalists to raise the matter on the floor of the Senate on alleged spending of N250billion without appropriation by the CBN under Sanusi.It was gathered that a motion to that effect was already set for presentation by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang.
