An elder in Ika Local Government Area, who did not want his name mentioned, said at least three indigenes of Ika Local Government Area have been reportedly missing within the last one year.

He said property worth hundreds of millions of naira were destroyed when on September 24, 2012, some youths believed to be indigenes of Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State attacked the area.

The irate youths, it was gathered, wrecked havoc in the village, maiming and capturing innocent villagers besides pulling down all signposts bearing the insignia of Akwa Ibom State, claiming that the area belongs to Abia State.

Eye witness account indicated that aside from the three people abducted, 13 others sustained varying degree of injuries from their attackers. Cars and houses were vandalised while about four motorcycles were burnt.

Reacting, the Chairman of Ika Local Government Area, Chief Saviour Enyiekere, who expressed shock at the murder of Udoekpong, appealed to the people, especially youths in the area to remain calm and warned against reprisal attack.

Enyiekere assured the people that government would do everything within its power to provide adequate security in the area, with a view to forestalling further killings and destruction of property by the people of Ukwa East Local Government Area.

Efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Dickson, proved abortive as his number was said to have been unavailable.
