The military claimed on Tuesday to have seized 288 rifles and 35 rockets from terrorists in Cameroon at the weekend. A statement signed by the Director of Defence Information at Defence Headquarters, Major General Chris Olukolade, attributed the seizure to the collaboration in fighting terrorism in the sub-region, as Cameroon security forces made the huge seizure of arms that were apparently meant for use by terrorists operating in Nigeria.In addition to the rifles and Rocket Propelled Guns, he said that locally made IEDs were also recovered following a fierce encounter at Abugasse in Cameroon, a location close to the Chadian border.Other items recovered included pistols, mortar bombs, sub-machine guns and various calibres of ammunitions. following the arrest of.Olukolade said two suspects believed to be major arms suppliers to the terrorists in Nigeria were also nabbed in Abugasse. Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has said that late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, would have been one of the front seat leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) if he were to be alive.Okorocha in a statement issued today in Owerri by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, said that Ojukwu while alive had been concerned with how to launch Ndi-Igbo back to the mainstream of Nigerian politics after the civil war. At least 15 civilians have been killed in a suicide bombing by suspected Islamist militants in north-east Nigeria, officials say.Six of the attackers also died in the explosion, which took place on the outskirts of the city of Maiduguri, a defence ministry spokesman said.Authorities said the Boko Haram group was behind the assault.At least 1,500 lives have been claimed in the restive north-eastern region this year, according to latest figures.Half of those killed were civilians, Amnesty International said in a report released on Monday.
