The Stage Is Set For Nigeria Break-up, Jonathan Act Now…, We’ve enough grounds to impeach Jonathan – APC Reps
The All Progressives Congress caucus in the House of Representatives on Monday said that it had “enough grounds” to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Goodluck Jonathan but that was not in a hurry to do so.The APC caucus said the time was not yet ripe to initiate impeachment against the President.Minority Leader of the House, who is also the APC leader in the House, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, told our source that neither the caucus nor the entire National Assembly needed a directive from the APC national leadership to impeach the President. He said lawmakers would monitor the President for now, hoping that he would amend his ways by addressing the allegations raised by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his controversial letter.Gbajabiamila said, “As for impeachment, there are enough grounds for impeachment of the President.“The constitution says you need only one ground, but we have more than one ground already. So, the party (APC) does not have to give us a directive to impeach the President.“Nobody wants to impeach the President, but we will continue to study the situation to see whether he will sit up.”He added that the opposition was watching the Peoples Democratic Party closely to see whether it would impeach any of the five governors who defected to the APC recently.“Particularly interesting is the case of Rivers State. We want to see how they will use five legislators to impeach a governor in that state,” he stated.Gbajabiamila said the “opposition will respond in the most appropriate manner” should any of the defected governors lose their seat. When contacted, the PDP caucus in the House warned that it would resist any move to discuss the impeachment of Jonathan at the House.Deputy Majority Leader, Mr. Leo Ogor, described such as “wishful thinking.”He argued that the National Assembly would not contemplate impeaching the President because “one external group” said it should do so.“
Jonathan Replies Yoruba Ex-convict Obasanjo Via Abati, Says OBJ Is ‘Spineless Coward’; APC His Cahoots
“President Jonathan is running a people’s government,” the statement said. “He does not need any snipers. His legitimacy comes from the people. Those who are alleging the existence of snipers should step forward and provide the evidence or shut up forever and go down in history as spineless cowards, driven by sheer greed and indecency.”Towards the APC, the statement dismissed the call for impeachment as as opportunistic, partisan and ill-motivated, and specifically trained its sights on its National Publicity Secretary Lai Mohammed. “Ordinarily, we would not have dignified Alhaji Lai Mohammed’s latest vituperations in the service of his paymasters with a response, but we thought it necessary to warn that the Federal Government will not standby idly and let the nation be plunged into unnecessary crises and political instability because of the desperation and apparent readiness of the APC spokesman and his gang of power-seeking desperadoes to sacrifice the well-being of the country on the altar of their selfish personal ambitions.”Apparently rattled by the APC’s impeachment call, the presidency described the opposition party as having moved further beyond the bounds of honourable and acceptable political conduct, saying Mr. Jonathan continues to devote himself to the discharge of a “sacred” mandate freely given by Nigerians.“The APC, which remains a minority party with doubtful credentials in the National Assembly, knows fully well that its attempt to hector and blackmail a Parliament dominated by loyal members of the President’s party, the PDP, into an impeachment process, will come to nothing.”
The issue of the deplorable condition of federal highways in the South East geo-political zone and the 2nd Niger Bridge came up again yesterday, during an interactive session of federal civil servants working in Anambra State, with Governor Peter Obi .During the meeting, the governor called on the Federal Government to expedite action on the implementation of policy decisions relating to the two projects. The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, described the two projects as very dear to the people of the zone and hoped that serious work would begin on them as soon as possible. He promised that the state government would continue to maintain cordial relationship with both the federal government and its establishments within Anambra State through constructive, proactive, and mutually beneficial relationship.
The United Nations (UN) yesterday said over 1,200 people have been killed as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast of Nigeria since a state of emergency was declared in the region in May. According to the World body in a statement, the figure is related to killings of civilians and the military by Boko Haram in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has promised the people of Rivers State that it will ensure the return of all its oil well ceded to other states, if voted into power in the 2015 general elections. This was even as the senator representing Rivers South-East gave reasons why the Governor of the state, Hon. Rotimin Amaechi, ditched the PDP for the APC. Rivers State Acting Chairman of the APC, David Ikanya, told the gathering at Eleme, during the inauguration of executive officers of the newly formed Save Rivers Movement, SRM, at Eleme Local Government Area, that should the party comes into power in 2015, it would correct all the injustices of the past. He decried the injustice that have been done against the people of the state, saying the party would return all the oil wells that hitherto belonged to the state, but that has been forcefully transferred to other states.
Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, on Monday kicked against the Presidency’s threat to charge some members of the All Progressives Congress with treason. The President, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, had on Sunday said that those “threatening fire and brimstone” and calling for his removal should be ready to face charges for treason. Almost immediately, the Special Assistant to the President on New Media, Reno Omokri, as if to affirm’s the Presidency’s position, went on Twitter to describe members of the APC as ‘desperadoes’. Omokri tweeted, “The desperadoes in the APC are advised to focus on selling themselves to Nigerians rather than raising false alarm. Whether the APC likes it or
