Fashola

Gov Fashola deportation of Ndigbo in Lagos

I used to be a keen observer and admirer of the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola (SAN). Apart from the visible progress he might have made in governing Lagos, I believe he is an astute and tactful politician. That could go as the most outstanding part of his personality. For almost eight years, he worked out a very rare but functional arrangement where he focused more on the day-to-day running of the state, while he allowed his former boss and Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria now All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, to hold sway and take full charge of the political arena. Do not take my word for it but it takes a man of considerable political acumen to function effectively under the shadow of a maverick politician larger–than-life politician like the “Lion of Bourdillon”, as many call him, and yet be able to create a remarkable political niche for oneself. Managing overbearing political bosses is a virtue that many of our politicians have not developed. Fashola not only achieved this but managed to create an impression of a visionary leader on anyone who visited Lagos recently.

Osun State Governor accuse Peter Obi of playing politics with lives of Igbo destitute deported from Lagos

Osun State government and the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday accused Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State of playing politics with the lives of the destitute evacuated from Lagos State. The state Acting Chairman of the APC, Elder Adelowo Adebiyi, and the Special Adviser to the governor on Youths, Sports and Special Needs, Hon. Biyi Odunlade, said at a joint press conference in Osogbo that: “Osun State government is also a victim of the Lagos State government’s policy on evacuation of the destitute to their various states.” They then warned the Anambra State government against politicising the issue. They said: “What the government of Anambra State did by reporting and distorting facts to President Goodluck Jonathan is unfortunate if not a deliberate political move meant to lay a foundation for something sinister that Governor Obi’s All Progressives Alliance, APGA, is plotting over the upcoming governorship election in the state that APGA may well lose.

Army and police patrol the streets of Kano ahead of Eid-el-Fitr

Ahead of Eid-el-Fitr celebration which marks the end of Ramadan, military and police authorities in Kano have beefed up security to fortify the commercial city against terrorist attacks during the Sallah festivities. After three months of relative peace in Kano, which gave residents the hope that the state was getting back to business, gunmen last week Monday re-enacted their reign of terror and bloodshed, leaving several people dead and many others injured. In an interview with National Mirror in Kano yesterday, the spokesman for 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Capt. Ikedichi Iweha, admitted that the latest Kano bombing was an eye opener, adding that the residents were “too relaxed”.
