Nigerian Ethnic Violence Leaves 39 Dead in Northeastern Town

Reported by Bloomberg Violence between Muslims and Christians in the northeastern Nigerian town of Wukari in Taraba state left 39 people dead, according to the police reports Bloomberg. More than 30 people were injured and more than 30 homes were burned yesterday in clashes between Hausa Muslims and Jukun Christians, Joseph Kwaji, a police spokesman, said today by phone from the Taraba state capital, Jalingo. The military and police were deployed to quell the unrest, he said.

Pro-Biafra groups present petition to Australian govt

Reports in two Nigerian major daily newspapers The Sun and Guardian (links below) and confirmed by the leadership council of the Indigenous People of Biafra is reporting that two pro-Biafran groups, Bilie Human Rights Initiative and Biafra Alliance (Australia) have presented a joint petition and summary of the ongoing court case instituted against the Federal Government to the Australian government. In a meeting organised by Biafra Alliance (Australia), in conjunction with Radio Biafra, London, in Canberra, Australia recently, the groups said the petition was part of the sensitisation programme aimed at highlighting the sufferings of Southeastern Nigerians at home.

Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno released by kidnappers

Breaking News Northern Elder Statesman Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno has been released by his abductors according to reports reaching Radio Biafra. The Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who was kidnapped by gunmen suspected to members of the Islamic separatist group Boko Haram was taken from his local mosque after Friday prayers in Maiduguri. Dr. Monguro is from the Kanuri ethnic minority group in the Boko Haram controlled Bornu area where it appears they have managed to fight the Nigerian troops to a stalemate.
